Student Scholarships
THROUGH CURT'S LEGACY THE FAMILY CAN HELP A DESERVING STUDENT.
Curt Lopes '82 loved people. He loved life. And he loved his alma mater "deeply and sincerely," says his mother, Myra Lopes. When Curt passed away in 1996, Myra says she found it hard to go on, until Curt's friends approached her about establishing a scholarship in his name. The Curtis L. Lopes II Memorial Scholarship is given each year to a student who "is very much like Curt-outgoing, caring, involved, with high goals." Mrs. Lopes is overjoyed that through Curt's legacy the family can help a deserving student afford a Stonehill education-because Curt got so much out of his. Before he died, Curt told his family: "Never forget me." So each year, on Curt's birthday and at Christmastime, the family remembers Curt by adding to the scholarship fund in his name.
"I've been helping my parents pay for college for the last two years, so when I received the letter saying I was chosen for the Lopes Scholarship, I was very grateful. But it didn't have its full effect until I met Mrs. Lopes. I was able to put a face on someone who is supporting my dreams."
