Moreau Way Dedicated
September 28, 2007

Fr. MoreauAs students make their way across campus this year, they’ll journey on a new path — literally: Blessed Basil Moreau Way, which runs west from the Chapel of Mary.

The College dedicated the walkway on September 27 as part of the gala kickoff for the College’s $55 million fundraising campaign Attaining the Summit: The Campaign for Stonehill College.

Blessed Basil Moreau Walkway takes its name from the founder of the Congregation of Holy Cross, the religious order which sponsors Stonehill, a Catholic college.

Fr. Moreau (1799-1873) was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in the summer 2007, marking the last step in the process toward canonization as a saint.

President Mark Cregan, C.S.C., conducted a brief prayer service at the head of the walkway, over the site where the seal of the Congregation is engraved in stone.

“I invoke the Lord’s blessing on this pathway with one heart, one mind and one purpose,” said Cregan.

“May all who walk this path imitate the life of Blessed Basil Moreau.”
